Unity ER guidance is not bad

Unity next quarter revenue guidance is around 50% qoq. It's insane how market priced it to this 90% drop. Sorry to say Fed has turned the market into a casino. $u

Let's take a look at their quarterly results:

  • Revenue $322.9 million for the quarter.
  • Loss from operations was $239.6 million, or 74% of revenue.
  • 1,075 customers each generated more than $100,000 of revenue in the trailing 12 months as of September 30, 2022, compared to 973 as of September 30, 2021.
  • Unity Completes Merger with ironSource

The ER is pretty lackluster. The revenue and customer count and retention is stalling. But somehow their outlook is really good. There might be something good in this one in the short term simply because they're already was too cheap for what they do. They're one of the few players that provides tools for you to write software for iOS and Android. It's not like you can go about developing games without them.

METAVERSE / SAAS PLAY This is my play of a GROWTH stock in a growth sector . Unity reported revenue of $286.3 million, up 43% year over year (YOY). As for the full year, Unity now expects to grow revenue by 40%, which is a big increase from the start of the year, when it was expecting growth closer to 20%.

What the Metaverse is and why it matters to you

$u $fb $rblx these might be good metaverse plays in the next while. we might dress up in virtual dressing rooms in the future. we might be in a virtual meeting room with our colleagues. or we might simply just play games and hang out with our friends in a metaverse. there are lots of things that can happen with this concept.

Metaversians also talk about the Metaverse being synchronous and always live for an infinite number of participants, meaning for instance your avatar will be wandering around this digital world in real time, as seen probably through some sort of glasses, for play, yes, but also for work.

Roblox and Unity seem to be moving already. Roblox is super popular among kids. U is both metaverse and duopoly mobile app development tool so having a bit more exposure to all of them seem like a really good idea.

Summary in the earnings call:

  • U reported third-quarter 2020 loss of 9 cents per share that beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 67%. The company had reported a loss of 67 cents per share in the year-ago quarter.
  • Revenues of $200.8 million beat the consensus mark by 7.6%. Moreover, the figure grew 53.3% year over year.
  • Revenues from Operate Solutions (60% of total revenues) surged 71.4% year over year to $120 million.
  • Revenues from Create Solutions (31% of total revenues) soared 46.5% year over year to $63 million.
  • Gross Profit on a Non-GAAP basis grew 50.6% year over year to $159 million from $105.6 million in the year-ago quarter.
  • Unity Software expects fourth-quarter 2020 revenues between $200 million and $204 million and revenue growth between 27% and 29%.
  • Moreover, the company expects revenues between $752 million and $756 million and a non-GAAP operating loss between $66 million and $70 million for fiscal 2020.

Good company overall. Guidance is not excellent but given their duopoly status in video game mobile application making industry they're very likely to be good in the long run.
