Meta strikes blow against 30% 'App Store tax' by charging 47.5% Metaverse toll

https://www.theregister.com/2022/04/13/meta_app_tax/

Meta intends to charge content creators as much as 47.5 percent of revenue from the sale of digital assets that touch its Meta Quest Store and virtual-reality service Horizon Worlds, more even than Apple's "30 percent App Store tax" that the firm's Facebook subsidiary has decried.

If they're serious about the 47.5% tax and it's pretty obvious this won't work. Devs are among the smartest group of people and they won't waste their time for things like this.

This might be what it looks like for a company reaching the end of its growth trajectory

In case you haven't noticed this might be what it looks like for a company reaching the end of its growth trajectory. MAU plateaued while the DAU is dropping and those are serious red flags for a company in the social network space. Keep in mind that AOL, MSN, or ICQ were once the most popular social network apps on the planet, but nowadays those apps are nowhere to be found.

Meta's latest Oculus VR handset dubbed the Quest 2 appears to have been a hot gift this holiday season, underscoring one reason why shares of the social media giant remain a buy, says Jefferies analyst Brent Thill.

Their stock price has been relatively resilient compare to their tech peers lately. Stock is up another 0.4% on Thursday trading session.

According to this lady we're still at the early stage of the metaverse. And for the metaverse companies you need to find ways to reduce the size of your headset and increase the battery life and find ways to make your eyes comfortable so maybe there's indeed some potential.

Facebook data on more than 500 million accounts found online

Fewer and fewer people around me are using Facebook nowadays. Also because of the privacy concerned people would be asking again how to prevent future leaked information from Facebook and one of the likely answer to that is probably just quit facebook forever.

This does not seem like a company you'd want to invest in the long run.

Fewer people around me are on Facebook nowadays. They're also sitting out on Whatsapp and Instrgram because of privacy concerns. I am also curious where this company is heading in 5-10 years.

This company just looks less interesting to me everyday.

They’re a growing company even at this scale. MAU and DAU are all growing. According to them their users had lower usages in North America which is a bit unexpected because you’d thought everyone is staying at home and browsing. But that aside their performance is still great overall. It’s probably still a buy and they are still one of the most effective way to do mobile advertisements for now.

Matchgroup AH crashed 15% as well. Financials still look good and they're a profitable company. But this comes with no surprise are you can see growth is struggling in the past 4 quarters. It's natural companies reached the end of the product lifecycle and there's not much you can do able it.

Imagine people who uses okcupid or tinder are always the same group of people. You always see the same profile pictures. Some of them are just there to sell services to you. Some of them are robots. This would get frustrating after a while.

To me this is inevitable for all social platforms. The same thing would happen for $FB or instagram someday and I guess we're probably going to see it very soon. $MTCH

I see people spending less and less time on Facebook. The thing about Facebook is I’m getting more ads and political opinions from people I don’t really care about and I’m not happy about selling my privacy for baby photos and those so sorry I don’t see further growth for Facebook in the longer term. On the other hand at least I know what I’m getting at. $fb $twtr

instagram is full of bots and ads nowadays

There's less incentive to be on the social network nowadays. On my instagram I see a big part of the engagements is a one time thing from bots. Also from my rough estimate you're spending like 25% of the time watching ads on instagram. This is so not worth anyone's time.
